About Me

Me with one of my allergies, I mean dogs. <3

Located in beautiful upstate New York,
I spend a lot of my time dabbling in the wonderful world of essential oils.

My Name is Nancy O'Neill. I am a mother of two terrific kids, a daughter of a fantastic mother, and a sister of a talented, older brother. I'm also a friend and partner to my other half and we live together with the kids and our dogs.

I am not a medical professional but I am forever learning and practicing as a student or aromatherapy. I am constantly researching, reading and watching all I can about essential oils and their benefits. I use aromatherapy in my everyday life and love to share what I learn from my personal experiences.
Below you can read about how and why I got busy learning of the positive role essential oils can play in your life and the amazing change they made in mine..

When I was in my twenties I suddenly developed some allergies and asthma. It was nothing that dragged me down and I had a handle on it. Through my thirties my body changed, as our bodies do, and considering I had had two children, I thought I still felt pretty good. It wasn't until I was 37 that things changed for the worse.

I had unexpectedly lost my father to cancer and unfortunately began to suffer from a depression. As I sought medical intervention and started to feel like a human being again, I was involved in a car accident along with my two children, who were young at the time. We were hit at a high speed and as the truck spun out of control so did my life. It's incredible what such an impact can do to a body. On a good note my kids were ok, scraped, bruised and scared but ok.

I had only lived in NY state for one year and as I suddenly became home bound and disabled, I started to suffer more from my asthma and also developed allergies to the trees, grasses and other elements in my new home town. I had become a severe asthmatic, developed GI problems and was in chronic pain. This resulted prescriptions after prescription. I ran back and forth to therapy for my healing body and to different doctors trying to get better. This was my life for about 9 years.

As I went from doctor to doctor, I was sick, tired and saddened. My life had drastically changed from what it was and I was not a happy or healthy camper and I cried all the time.

Too many doctor visits, one hospitalization for respiratory failure, chronic sinusitis, severe asthma, multiple operations & procedures and a lot of aches and pains to name a few, I was beaten down. I was suffering from an upper respiratory infection and sinusitis and couldn't even finish a sentence without choking. A friend of mine suggested that I try essential oils. Essential oils? I thought, no way. But though I was a skeptical and hesitant I was at the point where I was ready to try anything and took her up on her offer.

She was kind enough to give me  peppermint, lavender, lemon and a blend of RC from her own supply. I followed her application instructions but I was so frazzled that I couldn't find myself being totally compliant. But what I did do was use the lemon everyday. I added one drop to my tall glass of water everyday and I loved the way it tasted. Yes, I ingested it. Sometimes twice a day. Though I realize that this is a controversial topic, I did not care. I was desperate and this is my body. How much worse could I feel? I was careful to always thoroughly stir my water before gulping it down. There were no chemicals or synthetics I was ingesting and I loved that idea. *Please note that I am not recommending ingesting to anyone. I am simply explaining my personal experience.

Well guess what? Though I know I took a risk with ingesting, I felt great! After doing this for about 3 months I had a visit with my allergist to test for environmental and food allergies as I have to do ever so often. After the skin test, the doctor thought that there was an error since it only showed a dog & cat allergy which we already knew I had. He decided to repeat it with a blood test. Viola! Two allergies. The only thing it can be attributed to was my use of the lemon oil. Why do I believe this? To name a few reasons, Lemon essential oil has properties that are anti-viral, detoxifying, anti-fungal and stimulates lymph drainage. It's also uplifting, invigorating and helps focus and clarity. After being severely allergic and sick but sticking with my lemon use, I had a major change for the better. And that was without the addition on prescription medications.

Since I realized that "this stuff really works!", I began researching more and more about essential oils. I bought books, attended seminars and webinars and I experiment. I ordered many different oils and over a short period time I have collected approximately 100 of them. When I open by little treasure chest of oils, something comes over me. I beam :)
Here are some of my allergy results over the years and my "Congratulations you only have 2 allergies" letter. if you're like me, the letters and numbers look very, very small. Well dog, cat, cat pelt, red top, timothy, sweet vernal and pork were all elevated on my earlier allergy testing. The testing from 2014 finally shows only two, cat and dog. I'll take it!

UPDATE: It's been a long while since I first wrote this page and I just wanted you to know that I am a Certified Aromatherapist. I can't stress it enough how using my air sprays, blends and diffusing my oils daily have made a HUGE difference in my health. Thank you Mother Earth!

How Do I Use My Essential Oils?

It's more like what don't I use them for? The list would be shorter if I did it the other way around, what oils don't I love?                                                                                           Zero.
  • Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) has to be my FAVORITE! It is a native to Australia and has a clean and uplifting and smells so good. It's an antioxidant, a powerful antifungal, antimicrobial, antiseptic and antiviral. It is high in minerals like calcium, zinc and magnesium, and it has a healthy helping of vitamins A and E. I mix Lemon Myrtle in a spray bottle with a small amount of white vinegar and the rest water. This makes a wonderful lemony cleaner that makes the house smell wonderful.
  • Fennel (Foeniculum Vulgare) This is a new addition for me. Unfortunately I suffer from a few GI disturbances have been on many different medications in the past. This little beauty is wonderful if you have indigestion. I apply it diluted with a carrier oil to my stomach and burps be gone! It has has many other good uses such as an antispasmodic and cleanser for the GI system and liver. Eases indigestion, nausea, flatulence, hiccups and colic. Its an antioxidant, increases energy and quickens gland function and helps clear out poisonous toxins. Helpful in relieving uterine cramps and irregular periods, PMS and water retention and is also helpful in correcting fluctuating hormone during menopause. (Avoid if you suffer from epilepsy, are pregnant or nursing.)
  • Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia, Lavandula Latifolia Cineolifera, Lavandula Angustifolia) There are many different types of lavender and I have about four in my own arsenal. Lavender has many beneficial uses and has been used for thousands of years. It has an impressive list of uses and probably one of the most widely used oils today. The list is so long but these are some of my top properties I'd like to mention. Spike lavender has a less relaxing scent and more of a medicinal scent than the others, however it is more analgesic and antiseptic than the others. Good for boo-boo's. Lavender is valuable in skin care stimulating new cells, killing bacteria, prevents scarring, soothes burns, scalds, insect bites/stings, eczema, wounds, inflammation, etc. It has anitviral, antiseptic, antibiotic abilities and also helps loosen mucus, relieves pain from arthritis, aches and pains, reduces tension, induces calm, lifts depression and eases headaches.

  • Helichrysum (Helichrysum Italicum) Heli what? You may say, but get to know this little gem. Helichrysum has antiallergenic, antiinflammatory and antiseptic properties which make it a perfect choice for treating acne, eczema, dermatitis, hives, inflammation, psoriasis and more. It can also be helpful in treating asthma, whooping cough and bronchitis. It boosts the immune system and helps your body fight infections and allergies. It is also good to use to help prevent colds and flu. Helichrysum is helpful in treating muscular aches and pains, strains and sprains. It has antidepressant properties and is helpful for those experiencing stress, shock, phobias and lethargy.  I have to tell you that I used this oil on my dogs paw pads that were torn up with holes and severely sore. After two days of applying it to her pads, they healed remarkably! Look at her results! These are my personal pictures. Now you tell me...
  • Ravintsara (Cinnamomum Camphora) Though I don't have to use this all year round, I have to add this one to my list. Ravintsara is a great oil when you need to treat respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis or sinusitis. It can help support and stimulate the immune system, used for stress-related conditions such as anxiety, restlessness, nervousness and can help encourage self-esteem. It has a wonderful way of opening up your sinus passages and airways. I use it during the winter months when I tend to be respiratory compromised.
  • My latest discovery has been the blend of a few powerful oils to assist me with my struggle to fall asleep. I swear I have been feeling that I could die of sleep deprivation. Thanks to this wonderful blend I have gotten three solid nights sleep so far. That's a big statement right there. I have to test it out on Louie's son, who has had trouble sleeping for years, to see if it helps him. I will report back shortly.

So What Brand Do I Use?

Picture
I began using the oils my friend uses. When I started, I had no intention on becoming a sales representative for the company, I was really sick and I just wanted to feel good and bring a more healthy lifestyle to my family as well. Though I loved their oils and feel they are of very high quality, I am the type of person who researches and keeps looking. I bought a few other companies brands but I stumbled on one that I have stuck with. After reading an informative article by Jade Shutes, a leader in the field of aromatherapy, I decided to try Florihana's oils. I love them so much that I share my personal stock with everyone! They are pure unadulterated oils, meaning they are genuine, without additives, and are not diluted. They are 100% pure, unadluterated. The Florihana distillery is located in Provence, France and sits on 25 acre organic farm. They have over 20 years experience in the distillation of aromatic and medicinal plants. They are committed to strict quality control. You know you're getting an authentic and certified Florihana product when you find their laser engraving on each bottle. A few cool things about them: They never test on animals, they offer almost exclusively organic products that meet the specific standards recognized by the international community, they have Traceability Guarantee, and they are transparent by offering MSDS, Technical Data Sheets, Chromatography, Organic Certificates and much more information about their products right along side their product description. Now, you might not know all the lingo they give you, but it's
nice to know that you can find it if you so choose.

What Are You Waiting For?

I love sharing with everyone the amazing benefits I've experienced with essential oils!

If you haven't tried a quality essential oil, what are you waiting for? I recommend having a few of the essentials in the home. You don't need to have 100 like me but
having a few key oils on hand will be a beneficial addition to your "Well Being" cabinet.

  • Lavender is a must, in my opinion, especially if you have children! It is gentle but amazingly powerful. Excellent for skin integrity, allergies, eczema, wounds, burns, pain relief, relaxation, sleep and SO much more. It's one of the most widely used oils today!
  • Peppermint is a handy oil to have. Not only is it a deterrent to insects and rodents, it's a good digestive aid easing nausea and indigestion, helps open the airways, is pain relieving, soothes headaches, is a mental stimulant and the best property for me is that it cools down hot flashes!
  • Tea Tree is a top healing oil, known as "1st Aid In A Bottle" with many outstanding properties and benefits. From wound healing to cleaners and air sprays, it is antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal. It stimulates the immune system, inhibits growth of viruses and destroys fungal infections.
  • Lemon is a versatile oil which is derived from the rind not the flesh of the fruit. not only does it smell good, it is powerful at removing warts, soothing when used on insect stings or bites, helps stop external bleeding from wounds and nosebleeds, purifies the blood, is antibacterial and is beneficial in treating sore throats, coughs, flu, colds and throat infections to name a few.
