What is Aromatherapy? Aromatherapy is the holistic therapeutic application of genuine and authentic plant-derived essential oils for enhancing the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health of the individual.

What is an essential oil?

By now you may have heard someone you know talk about essential oils or maybe you've seen something online about them. Fact is, they are not a new, hot fad. They have been being used for thousands of years dating back to biblical times. Essential oils are pure and natural gifts from the Earth and are abundantly available to everyone. Not to be mistaken for fragrance oils in perfumes or cosmetics or food grade oils which are used for flavoring, essential oils are the highly concentrated, natural oils which are extracted from the bark, flowers, leaves, stems or other parts of a plant by method of distillation or other methods of extraction such as expression and solvent, leaving you with the fragrant essence and other powerful properties of the plant.

Used in a variety of ways, essential oils are known to provide pain relief, mood enhancement and physical well-being by improving circulation, respiratory functions, skin integrity, GI function and so much more. Many essential oils are antibacterial, antiseptic, antimicrobial, analgesic and antifungal making them a perfect substitute ingredient to store-bought cleaners and hand soaps. They can also be used in cosmetics, creams, vaporizers, massage oils, fragrant sprays, perfumes, cleansers, shampoos and conditioners to name a few.

Contrary to what you may think, an essential oil is not oily or greasy and most absorb without leaving a mark or stain. Look for quality Essential Oils packaged in amber, blue or dark glass bottles that clearly indicate the essential oil name with the botanical name also! You'll want to know that your oils are 100% Pure and also that they are organic if possible. Research the company before you buy. Look at their credentials, there sourcing, their methods, any
Chromatography, MSDS or other data sheets available for your viewing and if they are Certified Organic. And please do not let the price of an oil determine the quality. The price points will vary according to many factors which can be quality, company, size, and the company you're dealing with.

I prefer to use a smaller, international distiller who offers an exceptional product at an affordable cost. Though I do pay more for shipping, it's the price I pay to know that I am getting the quality product that I want and expect. Click on the Choosing An Oil tab for more information on essential oils and all the wonderful ways you can incorporate them in your life.
